Message from the CEO
Since taking over the management of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national gateway, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has taken proactive steps to operate the airport as a friendly and efficient facility, in line with international standards, practices and strategies, boosting the country’s aviation capabilities as a result. Our main drivers of success have been our people and our commitment to service excellence.
Our efforts to enhance the passenger travel experience have paid off and we are taking active steps to ensure positive change is sustained. Our long-term strategy is centred on substantial investments in boosting efficiency, infrastructure quality and customer service whilst enhancing comfort and ease of movement.
In our quest to strengthen the competitive advantageof Bahrain International Airport (BIA)and improve operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction, we witnessed a considerable surge in passenger traffic, which indicatesa significant recovery for BIA. As the regional aviation industry continues to flourish, we are confident that this trend will persist and our aim is to consistently grow these numbers by an average rate of 5-10% per annum.
On a commercial front, attracting new airlines, increasing frequencies, tapping into high-growth destinations and collaborating with existing partners to target new destinations will continue to be our key drivers for 2015 and beyond. Asia and the Far Eastoffer tremendous growth potential for both commercial and cargo airlines and BAC seeks to further exploit the opportunities presented with new and under-served markets.
A significant area of progress was the implementation of innovative technologies and solutions across the airport’s operations to minimize BIA’s environmental impact. A number of milestones were achieved in the last year including the commissioning of new state-of-the-art ground services equipment at the BIA airside, which reduced over two-thirds of the airport’s carbon emissions and marked a substantial increase in cost savings.
Presently, we are in the process of obtaining the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Level 1 from the Airport Council International, a major step in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and operate BIA as an environmental-friendly facility on par with international counterparts. We are working on a Carbon Management Plan with specific goals in place and cooperating closely with a Paris based Environmental Consultancy Group to ensure we reach our ACA targets. The next steps will necessitate the combined efforts and commitment of all BIA partners and stakeholders towards achieving a sustainable environmental strategy for BIA.
As the regional aviation industry continues to grow at an astounding rate, BIA is taking great strides to capitalize on these trends and forge ahead with ambitious plans to transform BIAin line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national vision and reputation as a leading financial, cultural and aviation center in the Arabian Gulf region.
I would like to thank all our partners and stakeholders for their continued support in helping us achieve our vision and I look forward to many future joint successes.
